Moving can be scary. The news of leaving home and reestablishing in a new and unfamiliar place can feel like a gut punch. And even kids know that change is hard. So when digital creator Lorelle Oliveira Sherman and her husband Greg-Karlton Sherman had to break the news to their 3 children that they were moving from Smyrna, Georgia to Snellville, Georgia, they did it in a thoughtful and intentional way to put their minds at ease and get them excited: with an epic PowerPoint presentation.
"WE ARE MOVINGš Greg made an entire PowerPoint so we could share with the kids all the pros of moving to a new city! (The perks of marrying a teacher of 13 years because the PowerPoint was so good š)," she wrote in the video's caption on Instagram. "Canāt wait to take yāall on this journey! Shermans in Snellville š„¹."
TikTok loves to celebrate relationships that fit our culturally accepted norms. 'Big manly guy plus dainty girl' equals algorithm gold! Every week there's a new challenge spawning hundreds of videos: Can you lift your girlfriend with one arm? Can you pick her up and sit her on your shoulder? Can you throw her over your shoulder like a military soldier?
Refreshingly, one couple is breaking the mold. Meet Ellie and Lucas. Lucas Byrd is currently the number one ranked collegiate wrestler in his weight class ā not too shabby. Ellie Holzman is a former D-1 volleyball and softball player. But they're social media-famous as a couple for reasons that have nothing to do with their athletic accomplishments.
Gen Z is a very politically aware generation, though many of them are still in high school they keep up with the political landscape of the world. There are many Gen Z political and social movements as well as official organizations fully run by these young people. Given how politically active Gen Z is, sometimes it's easy to forget they weren't old enough to be politically conscious when Barack Obama was running for president. It wasn't that long ago but some people, it's already history.
Their exposure to politics came to be in some pretty harsh and polarizing times where they were often at the center of the discussion. For many of the older Gen Zers, they felt thrusted into the political sphere to fight for gun reform whether they were ready or not.
If you've ever seen the movie Pinocchio you likely remember the scene where the wooden boy and his creator Geppetto get swallowed by a whale. Or maybe you've heard the story of Jonah and the whale where the disobedient man is swallowed by a whale after a fisherman threw him overboard. In both stories the people were swallowed whole and eventually escaped the bellies of their fishy captor but the stories seem so far fetched that they're simply unbelievable, until recently.
AdriĆ”n Simancas and his father Dell Simancas were kayaking in BahĆa El Ćguila, Chile when AdriĆ”n was briefly swallowed by a whale. Yes, these are real people, not cartoon characters. The pair were spending the day together, Dell recording on his phone like any other parent wanting to capture the moment to relive later when he wound up seeing the unbelievable.
