Can you really have "just one"?
For people who have problems with alcohol, it’s nearly impossible to go out and have “just one” drink. After one drink, their inhibitions are lowered, which leads to drink two, drink three and then it’s off to the races. Chances are the following day will be one of regrets and consequences.
A TikTok user named Danielle, also known as the Sober Rebel, who has been sober for over five years, has a practice she uses to make sure she doesn’t fall for the “just one” trick her alcoholic mind plays on her.
“Alcohol cravings can legit hijack your brain and overtake your mind, leaving you feeling super powerless in that moment. Because in that moment, the desire to drink can be larger than your initial intention to not drink alcohol in the first place,” Danielle says in the video with over 675,000 views. “So we're gonna walk through a little visualization and we're gonna talk about this powerful exercise that is called playing the tape forward.”
ICCD is one of the biggest volunteer-led movements every year, with people around the world taking action for our ocean by cleaning their local shoreline. This year, Ocean Wise is hosting webinars to share exactly how you can lead a team to celebrate ICCD and contribute to our Shoreline Cleanup litter database in the process. This litter data has helped inform plastic pollution policy on a larger scale, driving long-term impact.
The next webinar is happening on September 6th and will show you exactly how to plan and lead a cleanup in your community, featuring speakers from our Ocean Pollution and Plastics team!
"How your mind stays young while your body starts to slow down."
Even though aging is inevitable, studies show how we think about the process can significantly impact our longevity. People with a positive view of aging live an average of 7.5 years longer than those without.
Things happen as we age that are impossible to describe to younger people. However, a group of Redditors did an excellent job of explaining the truths about aging that they were not “prepared” for in a recent thread that made a lot of people feel seen. A user named sofiagympixie asked the AskReddit forum, “What’s a truth about aging that no one prepared you for?” and it received over 2,700 responses.
"How?! With what energy?!"
“Are you guys doing the hanky panky, like, multiple times a week?”
This was the question posed by Madison Barbosa, who watched a video on her For You page of a mom asking other moms how often they were “doing the deed,” and saw that some comments read “4-5 times a week.”
Barbosa, a mom herself with two kids under the age of 3, was flabbergasted.
“How?! With what energy?” she asked in a clip posted to her TikTok.
Barbosa went on to say how hard it is to maintain intimacy when you have small kids to take care of. For her, the main reason has nothing to do with lack of attraction or desire. Primarily, it’s because “at the end of the day, I am so tired of being touched. I don't want to be touched anymore. I don't want to be touched.”
