One misheard vowel created a masterpiece.

It was just one of those things. A vowel sound was ever-so-slightly altered by a Southern accent, leading one word to sound like another. More specifically, a long “a” became a short “e,” changing the entire meaning of one word. Thus, a poetic song title was born.

Iconic musician Stevie Nicks had just gone solo from her band Fleetwood Mac when she found herself chatting with Tom Petty’s first wife, Jane Benyo. Digging into their relationship, a topic Nicks certainly liked writing about, she asked Jane how old she was when she and Petty met. But the simple answer was misunderstood due to that vowel miscommunication. Accents can be funny that way.

When a sweet little kitten named Gelato showed up at Cincinnati Animal CARE, a spinal injury left his back legs too weak to support his weight. But the little fella could still move his legs and retained bowel and bladder function, leaving the vet “optimistic” about his recovery. 

Sure enough, Gelato’s curiosity and playfulness were unfazed. He still very much “wanted to play and walk around,” Medical Director Dr. Amanda Gilbert told LOCAL 12 News. 

The only problem was he physically couldn’t walk around. And while the facility had animal wheelchairs, they were all too big for this tiny little patient.

Benjamin Brandt is a Certified Financial Planner who has spent nearly two decades helping people plan for retirement. On his YouTube channel, Even Better Retirement, he says that one big difference between the generations is that Boomers have retired “forward,” while Gen X is retiring “backward.”
